I'd like to see a rankings by Compete score, which I think is better than Quantcast.
Boston Gal's Open Wallet probably does 5 times the amount of traffic that I do (easily), so I question how good these really are.
I've also never heard of SoundMoneyTips or StockGumShoe, so you can understand my surprise that they are in the top 10.

Lazy Man:
Here are the Compete scores for:
SoundMoneyTips: Monthly Traffic: 22844
StockGumShoe: Monthly Traffic: 11137
And since Boston Gal's Open Wallet does not have a domain name of its own Compete cannot generate its score!
Overall in our experience so far, Quantcast has been generating reliable data at par with Site Meter and Google Analytics.
Hope this information helps.
Cheers,
FIRE Finance

Nice list!
I'm pleasantly surprised to get some external objective feedback on how well I am doing and how well personal finance, as a sector, is generally doing.
However, as hinted at by Lazy Man, I think it will take time to discover all the sites that fit into your measured category. If you can do that - there will eventually be less "surprises" hiding out there.

Hi Fire Finance,
This is a fun list you've put together. I have noticed quite a few sites that are not mentioned. Blueprint for Financial Prosperity, All Financial Matters, Free Money Finance, and Wise Bread are all very popular blogs.
I wonder if Quantcast doesn't have familiarity with many sites? Still, this is a neat thing you've done, and as with any project of this magnitude, it will need a little tweaking.

It looks like the SoundMoneyTips is really part of Seeking Alpha (http://soundmoneytips.com/page/about_us ), and I would claim that violates the "...strictly to personal finance blogs written and managed by a single owner sharing their personal life's experiences." clause.
As for StockGumShoe, I'm really quite surprised by their traffic, but I'm a little skeptical. Compare it with Jim's Bargaineering.com/articles (Blueprint for Financial Prosperity) - http://siteanalytics.compete.com/stockgumshoe.com+bargaineering.com?metric=uv
For my site, Quantcast explicitly says that it has sparse data, which sounds like it knows it has a problem. It also says my audience is heavily female, which would be a complete shock to me. They give a little more information on their data here: http://www.quantcast.com/interpreting-panels.jsp. I don't have Flash on the computer that I'm on so I can't see what heavily female means, but it would be interesting to compare it to iVillage.
I'd suggest using something similar to Text Link Ads Blog Juice Calculator, which factors in 4 or so factors (Technorati, Alexa (though I can replacing this), and some other things that I can't remember right now).

I understand the reasoning for not counting www.bargaineering.com/articles, but then you can't really count www.getrichslowly.org/blog (GRS). I realize that Quantcast failed for BPFFP and worked for GRS, but that just shows you Quantcast's limitations.
Why include Google PR and exclude Technorati? Google PR is like Technorati in that it measures links and link value and not necessarily traffic.
I'm not saying that Quantcast is particularly wrong about my site, just pointing the flaws in the measuring process.
I didn't mean any disrepect to you for creating this list - it is a very good list. I just want to be of service helping you best measure blogs - even though it's extremely difficult to impossible to do accurately.

Hi Fire Finance,
I guess I skimmed over All Financial Matters. It is tough to read them when they are not in alphabetical order. Free Money Finance is very popular, so it should definitely be in there.
Thanks,
Patrick

FIRE, I'm sure you spent a lot of time on this list but I agree with others that the traffic stats don't represent the actual number of visitors to these sites. I see you're making some revisions, looking forward to an updated list!
Hello,
Thank you very much for compiling this list, but I'm a little confused. You used Quantcast as your source for determining traffic, but this is a service that I've never heard of and does not have correct information about my site. My SiteMeter stats are, as always, at the bottom of the far right sidebar of PoorerThanYou.com. From your update I see that I'm not the only one coming to you with this concern - I hope that PTY will be included in your reevaluation of the list.
Thank you!

Hi Fire Finance,
Thanks for making this list and including all the updates. I know this was a lot of work on your end - especially with all the blogs that are not accurately measured. I think the problem is with the limitations of the sites you are using, which is not your fault of course. Still, I think this is a fun list and one that will spark many a conversation and debate. Again, thanks for your hard work.

Hi,
Great job with the rankings! Will you please include my blog in your list too? I write for "Grad Money Matters" (gradmoneymatters.com). Here are the links for Quantcast and Compete for my blog. Sitemeter is currently not public.
Quantcast (Monthly uniques 3,814): http://www.quantcast.com/gradmoneymatters.com
Compete (Monthly traffic 15,067): http://siteanalytics.compete.com/gradmoneymatters.com?metric=uv

Nice info. I used to use SiteMeter but I had to abandon it because my
usage kept going up and when I cracked 1 million page views in a month I had to stop with them because they were charging $30 a month. I prefer Google Analytics, which offers similar stats and is free.

Hi FIRE Finance,
Thanks for including Queercents on your list. May I ask you make one change?
Instead of TheQueerCents... can you list it as Queercents. (No "The" and lower case "c" - all one word)
Thanks much,

After reading your fresh comments (after re-compilation of the rankings), the responses are:
- we will add the sites (of those of you who mentioned an inclusion in the list) when we compile it again later.
- the sitemeter list has 37 sites since those were the only ones implementing sitemeter in our entire list of pf bloggers! As our database of sites grow the list will grow provided they have implemented sitemeter and made the data public.
- in future we will implement cut off limits for traffic for all the three rankings. The limits are dynamic and will depend on the no. of sites we are ranking.
- Spelling mistakes will be taken care of.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. Please leave more comments so that we may improve the rankings based on them.

Hi Fire Finance,
I notice Broke-Ass Student (http://www.brokeass-student.com) is included in your Top 100 list. Thank you for the incredible honour! I would like ask that my blog, frugalupstate.blogspot.com be considered for inclusion. I blog strictly on Frugality, and I see you have included several other frugal blogs such as Frugal for Life, Frugal Living by a Frugal Guy etc etc.
My Sitemeter stats are open to the public, with my monthly visits running around 9,000 (I peaked at 12,151 last month due to inclusion in the Dollar Stretcher Newsletter).

Medicated Money ranked 74 a month in traffic, how is that in the top percentage?
That is a great job. I really appreciate the tremendous effort that went into compiling the list. Some observations of my own.
1. No one metric or system is perfect. Each site (Quantcast et al) has its own premises and definitions of traffic. Further they have their own way of measuring them. Let alone being perfect. I would rely only on their relative merits instead of absolute numbers.
2. It does not make sense to update the list sooner than a month.
3. A reasonable cutoff traffic is desirable for a blog to make it into the list.
4. How about consolidating the 3 tables into one? Do we really need data from all the three sites in the first place?
My 2 cents :)

The sitemeter stats are public and on the site. I checked and wasn't listed by Quantcast so I've added in their javascript as well.
I was getting picked up by compete already and seem to be around 50ish based on the rankings you have listed for other sites.

It's a great job, but I also think three separate lists is a bit cumbersome. If you have the skills (or can get some help) a single list of:
blogname,
sitemeter rank & data,
Quantcast rank & data,
Compete rank & data
would be better - ideally with the applet letting you sort by blogname or any of the three rankings.

Wow, I'm very impressed. I definitely like to be included in the next roundup, but I imagine I'd just appear in what will an inevitable, "all others" category.
Wooo.... I could never resist a great list. Nice job! This must've taken a lot of work.
I do have a tiny bit to add about Wise Bread:
"Wise Bread is a popular blog but is maintained by a group and is not strictly related to personal finance."
But isn't Queercents also a group blog?
Wise Bread's four topic areas are "personal finance," "frugal living," "career and income," "lifehacks," and "deals and coupons." With the exception of lifehacks, I think all our topics are traditional personal finance material.
Oh well, we are thrilled to be remembered by CashMoneyLife. =)
Keep up the great work!

"In our next rankings we shall create a separate list of rankings for blogs run by a professional team of bloggers or staff writers."
Thanks Fire Finance, that will be awesome!
To clarify things, though, I want to add that while many of our writers are professionals (some have financial certifications, some are professional writers, etc), none of them are "staff writers" in the traditional sense.
They don't get paid a salary. Instead, they take home 100% of the advertising revenue generated by their articles. Which, if you think about it, is pretty much how it works for any blogger.
I look forward to the new list!

Hello again! I love this revised list since I'm on it! :-)
However, I do think you guys are overlooking Single Ma's Fabulous Financials. Her blog is great and definitely gets a lot more traffic than mine, per Feedburner.

We are really sorry, thanks for pointing out the mistake. It has been fixed and your url is working fine!
MapGirl:
We did consider Single Ma's Fabulous Financials.
1. This site's data for sitemeter is private.
2. Since it is hosted on blogspot and has .blogspot in its url, so compete cannot generate its data.
3. Quantcast says that it has sparse data for this url and its < 2000.
So we could not rank it.

Once more, a huge effort. Thank you for this, though I have a question and comment.
I'm wondering if you will be doing this on a monthly basis? That seems like a really big effort if you do.
Secondly, I find it very strange that some *really* big sites are ranking lower relative to others as per the Compete and Quantcast scores.

Nice compilation of personal finance sites.
Seems like different sites use different methodology for their rankings.
I'm surprised that certain sites made it on the list.

You've compiled an amazing amount of data! Thanks for including my blog this month.
I am pleasantly surprised to find mine ranks in the top 10 already!
I'm curious, has anyone considered ranking by Technorati or Feed subscriber counts? Wow, my mind boggles at the variety of combinations that can be used.
Does anyone have any idea what affects google search result traffic most?

Yikes. It took me two minutes to figure out where the "post a comment" links was...
You're missing data for GRS on two of the sites. My Quantcast reach is 54,253. My Compete number is 136,217.

Mapgirl you need an attitude check. You are obviously an average PF Blogger to not have been included in their list as you would have liked to be. Be happy that you were even mentioned as such a nasty attitude as I have seen displayed elsewhere will get you nowhere.
How are the authors of this site supposed to know what ISP issues you're having which would interfere with your page rank? How about you inform them prior to the posting? Your attitude is such a turn off because I was witness to your incessant whining on one the previous ranking posts. Get it together and perhaps you'll be noticed as you hoped you'd be.
This is a really great list guys I can some pf bloggers are moving on up!

Love the List. Unfortunately, I was too lazy to sign up for all the measurement tools again last month.
I had over 22,000 visitors last month and I showed as 2K at Quant. So, I finally got around to signing up for all 3 this month.
Hopefully I'll make the rankings this time around for August's results.

Hard work can be focused on anything — at this time, I choose to focus it on my own personal projects and endeavors. I’m retiring from corporate life but not from work.I am eager to try this out so that I have a more flexible schedule as a mother of two young kids. I will be juggling this role with income generating work I will perform on my own terms.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. I believe I’ll be working harder than ever after I quit my job.

I think you should just average in a penalty for the sites that don't make the information available. Just take what their overall score is and add three for each piece of information that's missing. You can even keep track of real score and adjusted for penalties score.
Note: We republished the rankings once again. There were some sites whose sitemeter data had been made public but we had not been notified. Once we manually checked the sites and updated the data, the rankings changed so we redid the list :). Thanks for your patience & cooperation.
@Lazy Man and Money
That is a neat tip. If the sites comply, penalties would not be necessary. But in the worst case scenario, your advice might work wonders to make the playing field an uniform one.

I'd love to have SavvyFrugality.com considered on future lists. I don't run Sitemeter, however. The site is listed under savvyfrugality.blogspot.com. For some reason I can't get Quantcast to use my regular domain name. I have worked my way up to about 3,500 visitors a month, and roughly 5,000 page views, according to both Quantcast and Statcounter. Those figures should put me somewhere in the Top 100. Thanks!

Debt Sucks - http://debtsucksblog.com
Google PR: 3 - sad, it used to be 5 :-(

I would love to be included as well :)

I'm surprised Financial Samurai (http://www.financialsamurai.com) is not on the list. It's probably one of the best, fastest growing, straight from the gut PF site out there.
The writers are not broke students, or writers who are trying to pay off debt. They are actually doing well and have insightful expertise in the field.

Hi There Guys!
Please include my blog to the list: http://www.financialsamurai.com
It's growing quit rapidly and is in the Top 600K for Alexa at the moment and rising.
Thnx!

I'm part of a sponsored blog network; and therefore you might run into some of the same issues tracking site data that you saw at other blogs.
But if you can pull the data (Wisebread has some) Monroe on a Budget is at http://www.blogsmonroe.com/budget

Thanks for the inclusion! I like being on the PF Group list. Less people to compete with, and I can say I'm in the Top 15! lol

Consider Personal Dividends (http://personaldividends.com) for the next ranking. Should easily be in top 100. PR 3, with Quantcast tracker installed. It is a group blog.
I wanted to see about getting listed on you Top 100 list. I noticed my blog SuburbanDollar.com doesn't seem to be in your master list for potential inclusion.
I have provided the requested details below:

Hello,
I am now blogging at a new site (MoneyCrush) which is not in your master list. The information is:
http://www.moneycrush.com

http://s28.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=s28moneycrush
comments@moneycrush.com
twitter id: @moneycrush
I have added Quantcast to the site, but can't seem to figure out how to be included in Compete. Maybe I'm missing something there. Can you let me know if there is a step for doing that?

Wow! This is a total package list. For a new blogger like me in the personal finance niche, this will help me surely. Further, this list and their rankings will serve as my inspirations. Thank you for your great effort.
I’m not entirely sure if I would qualify, but I would like to have my personal finance blog listed on your master list if possible.

Nice list you have compiled here. I think Bargaineering deserves to be there at least. There are probably some finance websites out there that could have been added. Nonetheless, it's a good list.
@Austin
Bargaineering is there in this list - its under Group Blogs - the name is Blue Print for Financial Prosperity.

Great site guys. Been searching for something like this. Looks like a lively debate on who's who / who should be included, so I'm looking forward to seeing December's figures when they're released. Very interesting feedback to Lazy man where you put Google PR and Technorati head to head. Good stuff!

Boston Gal's Open Wallet probably does 5 times the amount of traffic that I do (easily), so I question how good these really are.
